1. A last newsletter?
There is a lot of sadness today as at the time of writing, I know it's
likely this will be the last FISTF newsletter. As you probably know, there
will be an Extraordinary meeting in Frankfurt (Germany) this week-end. A
lot of people also know that the goal of the meeting is not only to discuss
about the future of table football but also a few people have concentratred
their energy to "take over" FISTF. Therefore, as there is a big chance that
the current active Board members will not be involved in the FISTF Board in
the near future, I would like to thank all the readers of the newsletter
for their support over the years.

I also want to thank Heinz Eder, Thossa Büsing and Fred Vulpes for their
great help over the last few years as they are not only great people and
great table football fans but also hard workers and, more importantly,
great friends.

For sure there is another person who deserves a special mention int he
newsletter. Frédéric Perdaens, the world rankings officer, has proved to be
the right man for the job for many years and I'm more than happy to have
had the possibility to work with him.

Good luck to the new team. I'm not sure they are aware how much work being
a Board member involves but I know they will do their best to keep things
going.

2. World Cup 2010
On behalf of the Board of Directors I inform you that the coming WorldCup
will take place in GERMANY. The venue will be RAIN. The second candidate
(Fiumicino/Italy) will get the preference for the World Cup 2011.
The world cup website will be up and running soon. The address will be
www.worldcuprain2010.de

3. Matzinger wins the national cup in Austria
This weekend the Austrian Cup for Individuals and Teams was played in
Traiskirchen. 27 players took part in the individual competition. In a
close final Markus Matzinger (TFC Mattersburg) won the title against
Guenther Bamberzly (TFC Wr. Neustadt) win a score of 2-1. Robert Lenz and
Thorsten Korzil (both TFC Mattersburg) reached the semis.
In the team competition the 2 top seeded teams (TFC Mattersburg and TFC Wr.
Neustadt) reached the final. The first halft ended 1-1 (goal difference
1-1). In the middle of the second half Mattersburg scored 3 goals on 3
different tables (in 2 minutes) and the final score was 3 vs 0. Details:
Lenz vs Pawlica 1-0, Matzinger vs Blümel 2-0, Leitner vs Bamberzky 1-0,
Korzil vs Hinkelmann 1-1. TFC Mattersburg B and TFC Wr. Neustadt B reached
the semi-finals.

4. The Greek cup for Nikos Beis
The 26th Greek national cup was held this week-end. Almost 100 players were
taking part. Int he teams section, Falcons won the trophy. Olympia was the
finalist while Atlas and Pireas Lions were the semi-finalists.

In the Open category, Nikos Beis was the winner as he beat Giorgos Koutis
in the final. Hantzaras and Stamokostas lost in the semis.

Finally, the U15 tournament came to a logical end as Giannis Vlassopoulos
beat Koulosousas int he final. Dimopoulos and Bourtsonis lost in the semis.

5. New website in Gibraltar
The Gibraltar Table Soccer Club hasstarted a website at the following
address: www.gibraltartablesoccerclub.com
Some pages are still under construction but it's a great move to see the
Gibraltar association promoting their activity!

6. News from South Africa
The local association is hosting its annual New Years Tournament this
Friday (22 January @ Panorama Sports Club). They are also planning on
having an AGM early in February for elections for SATFA posts and to
finalize the season 2010. There will be various tournaments in the
Johannesburg area.

7. World Cup 2010 in South Africa (by Clifford Graaff)
All table football players/enthusiasts/followers planning on visiting South
Africa during the World Cup must please contact Clifford Graaff (Chairman
of the South African Table Football Association – SATFA) with relevant
details of there visit. Information required would be: duration of visit,
location of visit and contact information.
SATFA will be recording the above information in order to meet our
counterparts from the rest of the world and extend our legendary
hospitality to all our new friends.
We would also like to arrange friendly table football games, and where
possible, tournaments (at various centers in our country) to coincide with
this historic football landmark.
The emphasis of the above (apart from the strong friendships which will be
forged) is to learn more about this great game to improve our local game in
the administration, organizing and playing departments.
Janus Gersie visited our country two years ago and played in our first ever
GP of Johannesburg(which he convincingly won) and other games against all
our local players. He also assisted SATFA immensely in the development of
the game in South Africa. Janus is regarded as a GOOD friend of SATFA and
more importantly a close family friend of mine as he spent quality time
with my me and my family.
We (SATFA), would like to meet the rest of our international table
football family and create more friendships like our Janus
Gersie-friendship.
Please forward the information to cgraaff@skyegroup.co.za

8. Some games in Latvia
This monday, the very first games were played in Riga, Latvia. Rene
Pukitis, who used to live and play in Canada, brought back some material
and managed to get a few new players together to organize games. Hopefully
this will be the very first step before organizing a real tournament.

9. Martin Hodds wins
14 players attended the Huntingdon Open last sunday. Martin Hodds was the
final winner. The Yorkshire Phoenix player beat Kevin Dyson in the final
(1-1 & shots). Adrian Curtis and Russel Geraghty were the semi-finalists.

10. Carlos Flores again
30 players attended the tournament of El Prat (near barcelona). Carlos
Flores beat Angel Valverde in the sudden death of the final (3-2) while the
Real Murcia won the team event.

11. One more tournament in Belgium
The Future of Hofstade-Zemst will take place on February 13th. For more
details, you can contact Filip Van Hulle at vanhulle.fw@pg.com

12. News from France

Stéphane Pommier in the final (1-0).
